SVG

Next to a price

The symbol takes the place of AED or د.إ in front of a price. Size it a little under the height of the numbers so it reads as part of the price.

Use it in your product

HTML

Paste the SVG into your HTML. It uses currentColor, so it takes the color of the text around it.

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="24" height="24" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none"><path d="M5.35 5.5C5.35 4.67 6.03 4 6.85 4H11.1C15.4 4 18.9 7.6 18.9 12C18.9 16.4 15.4 20 11.1 20H6.85C6.03 20 5.35 19.32 5.35 18.5Z" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="1.5" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-miterlimit="10"/><path d="M2.85 10.1H21.15" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="1.5" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-miterlimit="10"/><path d="M2.85 13.9H21.15" fill="none" stroke="currentColor" stroke-width="1.5" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-miterlimit="10"/></svg>

CSS

Or keep the file once and draw it with a CSS mask. It follows the font size and the text color.

.aed {
  display: inline-block;
  width: 0.8em;
  height: 0.8em;
  vertical-align: -0.08em;
  background: currentColor;
  mask: url(/dirham.svg) center / contain no-repeat;
}

Figma

Copy the SVG above and paste it into Figma: it lands as an editable vector you can turn into a component.

React

It is in the full React package as Dirham, and joins the free edition with the next release. Until then, the SVG above is all you need.

Why an SVG and not a font character

Most fonts and phones do not have the new dirham sign yet, so there is no character you can type and trust to show up. An SVG looks the same everywhere today.

Questions

Who made the new UAE dirham symbol?

The Central Bank of the UAE introduced it in March 2025. The drawing here follows the official symbol and is redrawn to sit on a 24px icon grid.

Can I use it in commercial work?

Yes. It is one of the free Neat Icons, free for personal and commercial use, with no credit needed.

Can I change the color and size?

Yes. It is a vector, so it stays sharp at any size. With currentColor it takes your text color; you can also set any fill or stroke color.

Does it work in Arabic, right to left layouts?

Yes. The symbol does not flip in RTL. Place it next to the number the way your product already writes prices.

More currency icons

The Saudi riyal symbol is free too. For Egypt there is the pound icon, and the Arabic and MENA category has the hijri calendar, RTL text and more.
